Vermillion

Vermillion
Open wing cruising/racing cat

The Vermillion is a contemporary take on those long term favourites of thirty years ago, the Turissimo's 9 and 10. It is the same concept of an open wing demountable catamaran with performance and accommodation. The accommodation consists of four quarter berths in the ends of the hulls. The centre section of the hulls has full standing headroom a galley and a dining table. The centrally mounted "pod" contains the long shaft outboard, fuel, batteries and the anchor and chain.

Hull construction is of strip plank cedar composite utilizing the "split half" technique. This approach halves the number of CNC cut female mould frames that are needed to be produced from the DXF files provided. The connecting beams are of alloy with the main beam employing our long term [40 years] solution to handling the bending loads imparted by the rig; the "floating" dolphin striker. The hollow glass fibre daggerboards and rudder blades are built using our proprietary steel mould method that produces very fair and light foil sections. Strip plank foam composite is an option for the hulls and, if you are looking for a maximum power to weight ratio, the use of carbon fibre beams and spars. For the same weight the carbon beams are twice as stiff and three times as strong. Or you can go for the same physical properties as the alloy but with less weight. If racing is your scene then a "square top" main in a high tec fabric is certainly an option worth considering.
