Targa

Targa
12 m[39.4'] ocean cruiser/racer cat

The "Targa" is a large ocean going version of the "Great Barrier Express". As such it features the same proven three quarter rig and the basic alloy cross-beamed open wing deck configuration. The "Great Barrier Express" has good performance but the larger size of the "Targa" gives it even more startling performance, especially in heavier weather when its increased stability confers much more power and allows it to be driven to the limit. This larger size also allows much more in the way of creature comforts to be included in the design. It is still a couple of long narrow tubes but it does have a decent sized galley, shower, dining table etc. Construction is in cold moulded ply but it could be quite easily converted to one of the more accessible forms of construction, such as strip plank in ones of its many forms. The forward sloping centreboards give benefits in the areas of hydrodynamics and balancing the boat but do attract very high torsional loads. If you doubt your capability to make these high tech foils then more conventional boards can certainly be fitted. We currently balance our dagger rudders and this is an improvement that could easily be incorporated and of course you can also make your own composite strip plank beams and manufacture your own wing mast if wanted.
