Revolution
Revolution
19.2 m[63'] wind turbine catamaran
The wind turbine powered "Revolution" is a "sailing" vessel that behaves very much like a powerboat in that it is capable of going in whichever direction it is pointed ie: even directly into the wind. The auxiliary engine is linked hydraulically into the wind turbine propulsion system to give superb motor sailing performance. Computer control would allow automatic optimisation of power to sail ratios to be maintained to give chosen speed.
When the original Revolution was designed the technology of the time, in both materials & availability, severely limited the application of this approach to "sailing". Today, with the availability of "off the shelf" components for wind turbine electricty generators, the general approach is almost childishly simple to implement. Just use one of our CS power boat platforms and mount a standard wind turbine on it.
Very simple and straight forward.
