Oyster Bay 66
OysterBay:- Ocean capable sport fish power catamaran
The 'Oyster Bay 60' is a timber sport fishing boat in the best North Carolinian tradition, however, it does depart from tradition somewhat in that it is a Catamaran. This enables it to be more fuel efficient than the traditional North Carolina sport fisher while at the same time having similar performance. This sport fishing capability is further enhanced by the rough water prowess of the high speed displacement catamaran sporting our CS hull form and highly developed wing deck structure. The boat may be largely of timber construction, but that does not preclude it from partaking of all the advantages of 3D CAD. DXF files can be provided from the designers surface model to enable all parts of the boat to be CNC cut. If you wish all sheets of ply can be nested and have CNC cut scarfs on a lot of edges to simplify joining and assembly. This provides a kitset like a giant jigsaw and enables large modules, like cabins etc., to be made separately, and then bought into position with the builder safe in the knowledge that the part will fit exactly. For an example of this see the section on the 'Matauri 16.5' in the news and in the commercial section.
This general approach to design has spawned a new marine industry of interior furniture makers who produce the complete interiors of the yacht off site.
