Iceni - 69

 ICENI-69: 21 m[69'] 102 passenger catamaran ferry

The 'Iceni - 69' is a Catamaran ferry utilising my usual minimum wetted surface low resistance round bilged displacement hull form to achieve good passenger capacity and performance with relatively modest horsepower. The vessel is of composite construction featuring PVC foam cores of various densities and thicknesses clad, with non woven fabrics of various configurations [biaxial, triaxial, double bias etc]. These are laminated in a polyester resin matrix, except for the outer skin of the lower hull, which utilises vinylester resin in the interests of osmosis resistance.  Most of the structure is made from flat panels manufactured on a vacuum table.  A mould is only needed to form the lower part of the hulls which are of symmetrical cross section. The vessel was designed to meet Marine & Industrial survey requirements for extended river limits operation. Caterpillar diesels developing 480hp at 2100rpm drive 4 bladed horizontally mounted conventional propellers via 2.04:1 reduction gearboxes. As is typical of all of our power cat designs, the propellers are completely protected. Tthe use of a short horizontally mounted tail shaft and beaching skegs allows for easy withdrawal of the shaft, propeller replacement, or indeed most maintenance with the vessel resting on its own bottom at any convenient location. The majority of the passengers are seated at tables which gives a complement of 102 people plus two crew. In keeping with this form of accommodation there is a substantial galley and a separate bar. Although it is intended that all passengers can be accommodated on the main deck there is outside access to the partially protected open upper deck where the seating can be used in fine weather. Installation of alternative bus type seating in the main cabin would almost double the passenger capacity.
