Barracuda
Barracuda:- 17m [56'] game fishing power cat
The 'Barracuda' is a game fishing power Catamaran. The vessel is intended to operate in open ocean conditions when fishing and the bows were therefore quite high and designed with some flare to provide as much reserve buoyancy as possible. The superstructure is well back from the bow and the front of the cabin is free of any windows and steeply raked to encourage any green water to return from where it came, as quickly as possible. The whole of the hull and wingdeck design revolved around ensuring very good rough water capability for the vessel. We have employed our usual hull knuckle and from this the wing deck sweeps up transversely in two double arches that are reminiscent of the McDonalds symbol; but which in this case, these are intended to ease the structural transition from the wingdeck to the hulls and to present little in the way of flat surfaces between the hulls for the waves to impact. Similarly, in elevation, the wing deck sweeps up to gunwale level some four metres back from the bow and the centre of the transverse arches terminates up forward in a wave breaking nacelle. All these features are intended to enhance rough water performance by preventing wingdeck slamming and providing a gradually increasing amount of buoyancy to minimise pitching. Construction is in a foam and glass composite in an epoxy resin matrix. There is some Kevlar reinforcing in areas of likely impact and carbon [graphite] stiffening is used in such places as deck beams. DXF files can be provided by the designers for the use with a CNC cutting machine, to produce most of the parts for the vessel.
